Bar Association Names Supreme Court Manager Chair of Dispute Resolution Committee

The Supreme Court's head of alternative dispute resolution has been named chair of the Ohio State Bar Association's Dispute Resolution Committee.

New Albany resident Jacqueline Hagerott is manager of the Supreme Court of Ohio's Dispute Resolution Section and an adjunct faculty member at Franklin University in Columbus. Ohio State Bar Association President Robert F. Ware announced this week that Hagerott will head the association's Dispute Resolution Committee for 2007-2008. The OSBA maintains 42 standing committees and 10 sections, each of which monitors a particular area of law. Committees and sections work to improve the justice system by keeping Ohio lawyers informed about the latest court decisions and regulatory changes. In addition, they comment on bills before the Ohio General Assembly and draft their own legislative proposals to improve existing laws.

Hagerott earned her undergraduate degree at The Ohio State University in 1996, her law degree at Capital University in 1999 and her master of laws degree at Capital University in 2002. She also has an associate's degree of applied science from Bismarck State College. One of 10 children, Hagerott is from Mandan, N.D.

“Alternative dispute resolution programs should be as accessible as possible to the citizens of Ohio,” Hagerott said. “As chair of the OSBA's Dispute Resolution Committee, I look forward to helping to create an environment in Ohio where dispute resolution programs help build public confidence in the judicial system by handling disputes fairly and with impartiality. Whether through private providers or through court-sponsored programs, alternative dispute resolution is an integral part of the judicial system.”
